Personal Knowledge Managment System
Disorganization. All my ideas were in many places without focus. I have a to-do list that I keep in one place (to the left of my computer), I write a list to add to it during the day. I keep post-it notes on the right of my laptop if I have a list of items I need to remember. I limit myself to three post-it notes, or I will lose the information. If I am making lists for myself that I use everywhere, I use Google Keep. I have them color coded for similar items: To-Do List divided by time frames are red, activities that need to be written asap are green, etc. I specific images and links in Google Keep if I will use them as a reference. I keep links to websites that help in particular areas on Pinterest and Google Drive sorted by subject areas. I wish to organize my professional items better.
Goal: Organipurposeon. The goal of every organization method is to capture, consolidate, create, consider, and share knowledge with a tool or tools.
First Step: The first step to organizing is understanding what system I have now (as shown above) and figuring out how to change your organizational method to improve it. After researching and reading about personal knowledge management (PKM) systems, I was afraid to choose them incorrectly. I got help through the YouTube Video.
The video helped me understand that I identify most with the librarian. I also see merit in the student.
Second Step: It would be a good idea to streamline my lists and notes into one place. The personal knowledge management (PKM) system that fits my note-taking style is Evernote. Evernote is note-taking software that helps you create and organize digital notes—and keeps them synced across all your devices. Evernote has a variety of templates and workflows that I could use. Evernote has a few different templates for notes that I can connect to the topic or project I am working on. They have a calendar so I can set goals and due dates. They have a to-do list, checklists, and outlines to help me work through my classwork. They have an app, the Evernote web clipper; allowing us to capture different media types. The media will be stored as notes, and we can organize them under the topics that fit.
Third Step: Another part of the PKM is organizing other tools if needed. I would still like to use Google Drive the same way I did the PKM: topical/project. If I arrange them similarly, I can take what I have done in Evernote and transfer it to Google to write my papers or make my presentations.
Strengths: Evernote is easy to use and organize. Evernote has a good search engine and tagging ability that helps find topics or ideas listed. The Evernote capturing tool is beneficial for capturing various information or notes. The system should integrate with Google and Chrome. I am trying the app, and it captures items well. I will use it more to see how well it works. Evernote can use a variety of formats, but a paid version may need to be used to upload the content and have enough storage.
Weaknesses: Evernote has more options that would be better if it was the paidHeersion.it The notes can be organized but not be put under multiple notebook sections. The web version and the app version have different look and feel to them. It may take time to go back and forth between them.
